Labour's £1million boost for Liverpool's neglected play areas

ChildrebA £1MILLION boost for play areas in Liverpool has been welcomed by Jane Kennedy, MP.
The Government cash will mean major improvements to three play areas in Jane's  Wavertree constituency.
They are at Doric Park, Botanic Park and Picton Playground.
Seventeen other play areas in other parts of Liverpool will also be modernised and improved as part of Labour's 'Fair Play' strategy which was launched in April.
Two brand new play areas will also be developed - at Newsham Park and Rice Lane, with 8-13 year olds given a big say about the sites and the equipment installed.
Labour's strategy aims to make outdoor areas in the city much more attractive places for children to play, as part of a nationwide campaign to help tackle child obesity.
Jane Kennedy said: "This money will help make a real difference to local play areas which the Lib Dem council have left to rot.
"Some of the conditions for local children in local play areas have been an utter disgrace. The Lib Dem's have been in charge for a decade and should be ashamed of themselves for allowing play areas to become both a danger to children and an eyesore.
"The work which Labour is funding, will transform play areas and make them attractive, adventurous and exciting places for local children and their families."
The government strategy is aimed at tackling neglect and decay, as well as health and social issues, in some of the most deprived areas of the city.

Promoted by Ray Collins, General Secretary, the Labour Party, on behalf of the Labour Party, both at 39 Victoria Street, London, SW1H 0HA.
